THE
ROADMASTER ACTIVE SUSPENSION SYSTEM CONSISTS OF 2 VARIABLE RATED COIL
SPRINGS (one for each leaf spring on each side of the vehicle).
EACH
ROADMASTER SPRING IS MOUNTED
BETWEEN 2 BRACKETS, ONE OF WHICH IS THE AXLE ANCHOR BRACKET (F)
THAT INSTALLS UNDER THE U-BOLTS WHICH HOLD THE
AXLE AND LEAF SPRING TOGETHER.
THE OTHER BRACKET
(HOOK BRACKET) SIMPLY HOOKS OVER THE
REAR EYE OF THE LEAF SPRING.
UNDER
UNLOADED CONDITIONS THE REAR LEAF SPRINGS ARE BOWED UP AND THUS
HAVE AN ADEQUATE AMOUNT OF TRAVEL TO ACCOMMODATE MOST ROAD CONDITIONS, BUT WHEN
A VEHICLE IS LOADED DOWN OR PULLING A TRAILER WITH HEAVY TONGUE WEIGHT THE
REAR LEAF SPRINGS FLATTEN OUT.
THE
FLATTER THE LEAF SPRINGS -- THE LESS SUSPENSION -- THE LESS SUSPENSION
THE MORE LIKELY TO BOTTOM OUT (AXLE HITTING VEHICLE FRAME). THE GOOD
NEWS IS NO REAL DAMAGE, THE BAD NEWS IS BROKEN LEAF SPRING(s), BROKEN
SHOCK(s), TIRE DAMAGE, OR LOSS OF VEHICLE CONTROL.
WITH
THE ROADMASTER ACTIVE SUSPENSION INSTALLED, WHEN A VEHICLE IS LOADED,
IN ORDER FOR THE LEAF SPRINGS TO FLATTEN OUT THEY MUST ALSO STRETCH THE
ROADMASTER COIL SPRINGS.
THE ROADMASTER ACTIVE SUSPENSION IS BASICALLY SELF
ADJUSTING, BECAUSE THE GREATER THE LOAD THE MORE THE VARIABLE RATED COIL
SPRINGS PULL BACK TO KEEP THE LEAF SPRINGS FROM FLATTENING OUT.
